Classes

Ballet

Barre:

Every ballet class begins at the barre. Dancers use the support of the barre to work through exercises one side of their body at a time.

Center:

After warming up at the barre, dancers move to the center of the room for center work. Center exercises are similar to barre work except dancers do not have the support of the barre.

Pointe:

When students are ready, at the suggestion of the teacher, they may move into a pointe class.

Tap

Tap dance allows each student to make sounds and movements to create a beautiful and rhythmic performance. The special tap dance shoes accompany every movement with a sound. Shuffles, slides, taps, and other techniques are used to create sound and movements that work together. This is a fun type of dance that takes skills and rhythm.

Hip Hop/Modern Jazz

Jazz and Modern Jazz dance combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with the current forms of popular dance. Jazz also has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the isolation of certain body parts to the movement of the entire body with the accents of musical rhythms. Hip-hop dance is a vibrant form of dance that combines a variety of freestyle movements to create a cultural piece of art. Through its three main styles of popping, locking, and breaking, hip-hop dance has evolved into one of the most popular and influential styles of dance.

Shooting Stars /Tumbling

Tumbling — also known as floor gymnastics — is a form of gymnastics performed without any specialized equipment. Stunts like backflips, handsprings, somersaults, and tucks are shown on the floor using tumbling mats for added cushion. Participating in tumbling from a younger age is important; it targets all muscle groups for total-body strength and flexibility.
